A utility knife bridges the gap between a chef’s knife and a paring knife. Compact and versatile, it’s perfect for trimming meats, slicing sandwiches, and handling a range of everyday kitchen tasks with control and precision.

Originally designed for rugged use, its modern form brings that same durability and reliability to your culinary workflow.

Exceptional Blades for Peak Performance

Each knife in the Ryda ST650 series is crafted from 73 layers of Damascus steel, featuring a core of ST650 powder steel flanked by 36 layers of 316/316L stainless steel on either side. Ergonomic, Natural Handling

The handles are shaped for comfort and control, with a smooth olive wood finish that brings warmth and character to every knife. Designed to feel secure and natural in the hand, these knives offer perfect balance for both home cooks and professionals.

More Than a Knife – Ryda Is a Statement

Choosing a kitchen knife isn’t just about sharpness – it’s about how it feels in your hand, how it moves with you, and how confidently it lets you create. While Shun, Miyabi, and Wüsthof are trusted names, Ryda Knives were built to outperform expectations, not just meet them.

Japanese knives
are celebrated for their razor-sharp edges but are often brittle. German knives are famously durable, but lose their edge quickly.

Ryda Knives bring you the best of both worlds
– the lasting sharpness of a Japanese blade with the strength and reliability of a German workhorse. It’s precision without compromise, built to perform and endure.

This isn’t factory sameness – it’s Swedish and Japanese steel, beautifully refined. And once you feel it, you’ll never settle again.

Owning a high-quality kitchen knife is an essential part of any cooking experience, whether you are a professional chef or a home cook. However, many new knife owners unknowingly make mistakes that can dull their blades, compromise safety, and reduce the lifespan of their investment.

In this guide, we’ll cover the five most common mistakes and how to avoid them, ensuring you get the most out of your knives.

Mistake #1: Using the Wrong Knife for the Task

Each Ryda Knife is designed for a specific purpose. Using a paring knife to chop large vegetables or a chef knife to carve meat can lead to inefficient cuts and even injury.

knife types
Choosing the Right Knife:
  • Chef Knife – A versatile knife ideal for chopping, slicing, and dicing.
  • Santoku Knife – Great for precision slicing with a scalloped edge that prevents food from sticking.
  • Nakiri Knife – Best suited for chopping vegetables with its straight blade.
  • Carving Knife – The ideal tool for slicing meats evenly.

Investing in the best knife ensures you have the right tool for every task. Browse Ryda Knives AU’s collection to find high-quality, durable options.

Mistake #2: Improper Knife Storage

Leaving your knives in a drawer unprotected is one of the fastest ways to dull or damage the blades. Proper storage is essential to maintain sharpness and prevent accidents.

knives in drawer
Best Storage Solutions:
  • Knife Set Magnetic Strip – Saves counter space and keeps knives within easy reach.
  • Knife Set in Box – A great option for those who want to protect their knives in a compact case.
  • Knife Block – A traditional and stylish way to store knives safely.

Knife sets stored properly will last longer and perform better.

Mistake #3: Neglecting Proper Sharpening Techniques

Dull knives are dangerous because they require more force to cut, increasing the risk of slipping and injury. Many new owners either sharpen their knives incorrectly or not at all.

How to Keep Knives Sharp:
  • Use a knife sharpening whetstone for precise edge maintenance.
  • Regularly hone your blades with a honing steel or a high grit whetstone.
  • Avoid using electric sharpeners as they can wear down the blade too quickly.

Sharpening a knife requires skill and patience, but the result is a razor-sharp edge that enhances your cooking experience. Check out this guide for expert advice.

Mistake #4: Washing Knives in the Dishwasher

Many people assume that high-quality knives can withstand dishwasher cycles. However, heat, detergent, and water pressure can damage the blade’s edge and corrode the handle over time.

Proper Cleaning Methods:
  • Always hand-wash knives with mild soap and warm water.
  • Dry immediately with a soft towel to prevent rust and water spots.
  • Store knives properly after washing to avoid unnecessary contact with hard surfaces.
Mistake #5: Ignoring Safety Practices

Knife-related injuries are common in kitchens, often due to improper handling and technique. Following basic safety guidelines can prevent accidents and improve efficiency.

Knife Safety Tips:
  • Always cut on a stable, non-slip surface like a wooden cutting board.
  • Keep fingers tucked under when chopping to avoid accidental cuts.
  • Never use a knife with a wet or greasy handle to prevent slipping.

Since childhood, I've cherished time in the kitchen, learning alongside my father. It's no surprise I pursued a career as a chef, driven by my fascination with flavors and culinary techniques. In 2014, I launched my first cookbook to share my fusion cooking and inspire others. This venture ignited my entrepreneurial spirit, leading me to explore diverse collaborations worldwide.

Unexpectedly, my interest turned to crafting functional, elegant knives - a passion cultivated since my early kitchen days. For nearly six years, I meticulously refined my Damascus knives to perfection. Each blade's essence, from hardness to steel composition and grinding, demanded exhaustive testing. Equally important was designing ergonomic handles that enhance knife control, catering to both professionals and amateur chefs alike.

I aimed for knives that empower users in the kitchen - a tool for culinary triumphs or a meaningful gift for any food enthusiast.
